Then, in 1996, I suffered a severe spinal cord injury from an automobile accident and was paralyzed as a result. Like most people, I had taken my good health for granted. I quickly realized how difficult it was to find qualified people to help with my home modifications and product needs. I fully appreciate the unique circumstances of physically challenged individual from both a patient's and a health care provider's perspective. It was through this experience that I decided to start Accessible Living Ltd.®"

"I started working part-time for Accessible Living in late 1999 as an extra pair of hands. I was a year out of college and, after discovering that teaching was not for me, I had been working as Bell Captain at a hotel in St. Charles. Installing and servicing mechanical equipment or building wood ramps was a nice change of pace from working at a hotel as I like working with my hands and constructing things. By the fall of 2000, I was a full-time Accessible Living employee and loving all the different facets this job has to offer. Whether evaluating a home for accessibility, working on a new installation or servicing existing equipment, I sincerely enjoy working with our clients to make their homes accessible. Even when receiving emergency pages late at night from places far, far away, there’s a certain sense of accomplishment and pride knowing that whatever the problem may be, I will find a solution. In late 2003, I was promoted to Operations Manager and in 2006, I became Vice President of Operations. I look forward to meeting more new clients and many more years of service in this rewarding industry."

"I have worked with individuals that were physically and mentally challenged and I understand how difficult life can be when faced with a non-handicap environment. I graduated from Bemidji State University with a bachelor's of science degree in Biological Science, Minor in Computer Information Systems, and last, but not least, a Minor in Marketing and Advertising My educational background allows me to have a better understanding of what an individual needs, from a personal and physical standpoint. I enjoy working with clients to assist them in marking decisions to better serve their needs by offering a complete and personalized assessment. I have never met a group of such caring individuals as I have at Accessible Living...I am honored to a part of this company!"

In The News:
The Yorkville Economic Development Corporation recently awarded one of five "Golden Arrow" awards to Accessible Living Ltd.® The yearly awards honor Yorkville businesses for their development and expansion efforts. According to YEDC's website "Accessible Living Ltd.® was honored for its new showroom and offices at 308 N. Bridge St., which opened in January in a century-old renovated house. The 3,000-square-foot building includes a number of modifications that make the building accessible for people with physical disabilities. Accessible Living has added a retail sales showroom and increased staff to a total of 12 employees."

Lori Bedwell
Office Manager
Marek Furman, our V.P. and Mobility Specialist, joined our staff in 2006. Marek has many years of experience in the field of Robotics and Electrical repairs. He is responsible to assist those in need of wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility products. In addition, Marek offers his expertise in repairing a variety of medical equipment and the installation of vehicle lifts, to help in transporting your scooter or wheelchair. Marek is available most days, by appointment from 8AM to 5PM and some Saturdays.

At Accessible Living Ltd “We Service What We Sell”. We are aware that there are many companies that offer mobility products. Many of these companies are internet based or simply not available when an emergency arises. We offer 24 hour emergency service and even have loaner chairs, scooters, ceiling lifts and more available as needed. Marek can be reached at 630-553-6607

Lori joined our staff in 2004 and currently holds the position of office manager. Lori over sees our day to day operations. Som of her specific responsibilities include scheduling new client home evaluations, In-Office Customer Sales, new product orders, and much more. Lori is normally in the office from 9 to 2 daily and will often be the first voice you will hear when calling Accessible Living.
